My HD Erised Fic, The Owl and the Pussy-cat

This past year was my first time writing for [livejournal.com profile] hd_erised, and it was a wonderful experience. [livejournal.com profile] dicta_contrion wrote me a truly beautiful gift, On Open Wings, and [livejournal.com profile] 8c left me very fun prompts to inspire the fic I wrote for her:

The Owl and the Pussy-cat.
H/D, soft R (PG-13?), about 8,000 words.
Summary: Harry, Draco, an owl, a cat, green peas, moon-cheese, an elf in a toga, a few Golden Snidgets, and some messing about in boats. Takes place 11 years after the war.

If you prefer to read in German, there is now a translation of this fic by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] nia_kantorka called Die Eule und die Miezekatze - that link is on AO3 - or if you prefer, you can read it here on fanfiktion.de.

This fic was initially inspired by Fum and Gebra. I dedicate it to the memory of the dearly beloved and handsome Fitz-kitty, keyboard-walker, chin-on-glasses-scratcher, and shoulder-leaper extraordinaire. Rest in peace, sweetest boy.

I just fell down an AO3 wormhole and stumbled across this fic and was instantly entranced. That particular poem by Edward Lear is the first poem I ever remember memorising for the sheer love of poetry. To see you take that concept and construct this charming fairy tale was breath-taking. The pacing is sublime, the characters so very human, and the nods to literature so endearing. When I finished reading this story, I sat for several minutes just trying to comprehend what I had just read. It's the little things - the mythology of boat-elves, the pea galaxies, Fern's green eyes. Your writing is masterful. Commenting on a fic so long after the fact makes me feel a bit like I am shouting into a void, but I couldn't encounter a work this lovely and not say something. I don't know if you are currently writing, but I hope so.
